About Dr. Chok (Check out his description and videos below)

Dr Chok Tsering Monlam is an accomplished teacher who has dedicated his career to the continuance of the Tibetan language and Tibetan Buddhist culture in modern society. He has spent more than two decades advancing his studies at a plethora of institutions and obtained his PhD from the University of Delhi.

Ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, he studied and practiced as a Tibetan monk for ten years before adopting the life of a practicing academic, teacher and healer. After becoming the Head of the Research and Translation Department at the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives in Dharamshala, he taught a wide range of modalities from Tibetan language classes to Tibetan yoga, meditation/mindfulness, and Buddhist philosophy. His passion, however, lies with Tibetan yoga. The eastern style of yogic practice is exceedingly rare, and few people are qualified to teach it today.

Dr Chok learned Chöd practice in a three-month Chöd retreat in Sankhu, Nepal in 2017. He received the Chöd empowerment from Lama Chödrak (Forest Lama) in Nepal and the oral transmissions from Lama Chödrak, Lama Wangdue (Nepal, Portland), and Lama Jigme (Tso Pema, India) and learned how to practice Chod from Chödpa Kunsang Dorjee (Khandro Labdon Shije Chod Institute, Nepal).

He has written two Tibetan language books and translated more than 35 books and many articles into English or into Tibetan. Since the pandemic, he has taught virtual courses all over the globe. His teachings during the four semesters of the University Open Air, organized by Brooklyn Public Library in Prospect Park, since 2019, have been well loved by his students! Currently he teaches at the Jacques Marchais Museum, Staten Island, New York.
