THE CHICAGO DIDJERIDU CHORUS (CDC) p>\n
The Chicago Didjeridu Chorus (CDC) is perhaps Chicago’s largest aco ustic tribal percussion ensemble\, featuring the Australian Didjeridu as i ts centerpiece. The Didjeridu is an ancient Australian instrument that has been used by various indigenous tribes in the Northern region of Australi a for at least 6\,000 years. The culture from whence it comes is said to b e 45\,000 years old.
\nFounded by Tim Porcelli in 1991 as a Didjeri du Storytelling group\, the Chicago Didjeridu Chorus has since grown to in clude handmade instruments from indigenous cultures around the world\, inc luding: Didjeridu (Australia)\, hand drums from Africa\, India\, Puerto Ri co\, Siberia\, Cuba\, Indonesia and the Middle East\, Tibetan Singing Bowl s\, Balinese Temple Gong\, various wooden flutes\, the Kora (African Gourd Harp from Senegal)\, Tongue Drums (USA)\, Zithers (USA)\, Sitar\, Tabla\, Naal\, Dholak (India) and ever expanding variety of other percussion ins truments.
\nThe Chorus lineup has changed and evolved through the ye ars. At this point in time the lineup includes (in order of seniority): Ti m Porcelli\, Dragan Milovanovic\, Carl Pedigo\, Catherine Myers\, Kim DeVo re\, Steve Riddle\, Terry Reimer\, Dania Calandrino\, Joy Wolf\, Jim Cote\ , Kristin Cone and Jonathan Anthony. Some of the folks who have played wit h the CDC in the past include Dan Plovanich\, Lynda Sanford\, Bob DeVore\, Jennifer Ruggieri\, Ed Anderson\, Jerry Sanders\, Trina Fischer\, Abdul J ami\, Alexander Duval\, Pam (djembe) and many others.
\nThe CDC has a long history of collaborations/performances with many innovative dancers and artists including Bec McNamara\, Callie Evans\, Andrea Mattson\, Mari Miller\, Whitney Counts\, the SAIC Belly Dance Troupe\, Read My Hips Trib al Belly Dance Troupe\, and many others.

\nAbout Dr. Chok (Check out his descripti on and videos below)
\nDr Chok Tsering Monlam is an accomp lished teacher who has dedicated his career to the continuance of the Tibe tan language and Tibetan Buddhist culture in modern society. He has spent more than two decades advancing his studies at a plethora of institutions and obtained his PhD from the University of Delhi.
\nOrdained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama\, he studied and practiced as a Tibetan monk for ten years before adopting the life of a practicing academic\, teacher and healer. After becoming the Head of the Research and Translation Department at the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives in Dharamshala\, he taught a wide range of modalities from Tibetan language classes to Tibetan yoga\, meditation/mindfulness\, and Buddhist philosophy. His passion\, however\, lies with Tibetan yoga. The eastern style of yogic practice is exceedingly rare\, and few people are qualified to teach it today.
\nDr Chok le arned Chöd practice in a three-month Chöd retreat in Sankhu\, Nepal in 201 7. He received the Chöd empowerment from Lama Chödrak (Forest Lama) in Nep al and the oral transmissions from Lama Chödrak\, Lama Wangdue (Nepal\, Po rtland)\, and Lama Jigme (Tso Pema\, India) and learned how to practice Ch od from Chödpa Kunsang Dorjee (Khandro Labdon Shije Chod Institute\, Nepal ).
\nHe has written two Tibetan language books and translated more t han 35 books and many articles into English or into Tibetan. Since the pan demic\, he has taught virtual courses all over the globe. His teachings du ring the four semesters of the University Open Air\, organized by Brooklyn Public Library in Prospect Park\, since 2019\, have been well loved by hi s students! Currently he teaches at the Jacques Marchais Museum\, Staten I sland\, New York.
